Edox Chronally Automatic 2023 Watch Review

The new Edox Chronorally Automatic watch for 2023, with visible vibrant orange accents against a latte brown dial is incredibly sporty. Housed from a titanium case and equipped with a sleek black oversized pusher, the wristwatch strengthens the brand’s association with the world of motorsport racing and gives enthusiasts yet another excuse to expand their ever-growing Edox watch collection.

Edox is a pretty old brand, which makes its watches highly respected and really quite desirable. Think about it. If you want a quality wristwatch that you can rely on, would you buy from a brand that launched last week or would you hedge your bets on a watch brand backed by know-how and expertise? Edox began in the late 1900s and survived both World War I and II. The company was founded in Biel and was easy to pronounce in each language. The name was also short and punchy enough to decorate the dials of its pocket watches. That was until, of course, the watch was taken over after the death of its origin and founder, Christian Reufli-Flury. The banker soon recognised that the world would be taken over by the wrist-worn watch. Pretty soon the company began focussing solely on wristwatches and in 1961 filed a patent for a double waterproof joint on its crown system. Combined with a double casing bottom, these two features formed the famous Delfin watch, with its staggering 500-meter water resistance. At this point, Edox formed a healthy partnership with the world of luxury boats.

Technical innovations continued with Edox watches, where a waterproof watch crafted from multi-hardened stainless steel was born, known as the Bluebird. In the 1970’s the brand’s first GMT watch arrived named the Geoscope, with clearly identifiable continents laid out across its dial. Having survived the quartz crisis, Edox released the slimmest calendar in 1998, followed by a partnership with the Class 1 World Power-Boat Championship, as well as becoming the official timekeeper for the Dubai International Marine Club.

In addition to all this, Edox is also the official timing partner for BMW Motorsport as well as the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), the Dakar Rally, the FIA World Rally Cross Championship and the Sauber F1 Team. Strengthening its ties with the motorsport industry, Edox is proud of its Chronorally collection of watches. Amongst this series is the new Chronorally Automatic in orange and black, released in 2023.

Amongst its impressive spec list is a titanium case that is lightweight and strong, offering extra resistance to corrosion compared to traditional stainless steel and a high tensile strength-to-density ratio. What this means is that the material chosen for its case is the best option for plenty of outdoor activity, making it ideal for outdoorsy individuals and those that like to push the limits in exploration.

The new Edox Chronorally Automatic watch also features a Master Lock buckle in its strap. With an innovative security system, it prevents the watch from loosening on the wrist and is a feature that has been chosen only for Edox Chronorally timepieces. To enhance legibility at a quick glance and to optimise reading the time in dark conditions too, the new Edox Chronorally watch for 2023 has received plenty of Super-LumiNova to its hour markers and hands.

The first half of the dial is represented in Arabic numerals whilst the other side features baton indexes – all of which have been executed in a vivid and zesty orange colour to match the central seconds hand – sharp, crisp and tapering beautifully into a point at the end. Surrounding the latte brown dial is a black tachymeter scale. The left-hand side of the dial is also represented in a matte black shade, which makes the off-centre chronograph sub-dials stand out perfectly with their bright orange trims and detailing. The 12 o’clock counter offers the minutes and is balanced by the 6 o’clock counter for the 12-hour function. The small seconds is located at the 9 o’clock location, balanced by a striking white rectangular-shaped window for the date at 3 o’clock.

The new Edox Chronorally Automatic watch in titanium measures a confident 45mm diameter and is powered by the Automatic Calibre 011, based on the Sellita SW 500). The movement has a 48-hour power reserve to offer once fully wound and sits inside a 100-meter water-resistant case. An oversized black coated 2 o’clock push-piece is a dominant feature of the case, whilst the winding crown sits at 3 o’clock, nestled by another push-piece at 4 o’clock, executed in polished titanium so that it picks up the brightness of the central hour and minute hands on the dial.

To finish, the orange and brown Edox Chronorally Automatic watch is fitted on a black rubber band with the special Master Lock Buckle mentioned earlier, engraved with the famous Edox lettering.
